Babatunji Wusu –

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has shed light on why former President Muhammadu Buhari was absent from the funeral of Hajiya Dada, the mother of the late President Umar Musa Yar’adua.

Ahmad clarified that Buhari’s absence was due to his current location outside the country, not any intentional slight. He emphasized that Hajiya Dada was the mother of Buhari’s close friend and classmate, the late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, as well as the mother of the late President Umar Musa Yar’adua and Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, who chairs the Senate Committee on Army.

Ahmad took to his X account on Wednesday to address circulating social media posts suggesting that Buhari deliberately skipped the funeral. He reassured that Buhari, while not in Nigeria, had extended his heartfelt condolences to the family.

Hajiya Dada, who passed away at the Katsina Teaching Hospital on Monday at the age of 102, was revered for her strong character and significant influence on her sons’ lives and careers. Her passing has prompted a wave of tributes from across Nigeria, with many prominent figures honoring her memory.
