Chimaroke Nnamani, a senator from Enugu, claims he chose to support Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) violated its constitution by disregarding the idea of power rotation.
In a statement he released on Sunday in Abuja, he emphasized this.
The party has suspended Mr. Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State, for allegedly engaging in anti-party actions.
He had made no secret of the fact that he backed Mr. Tinubu, whom he praised as a superb administrator.
In order to promote equity, justice, and fairness, Mr. Nnamani claimed that the PDP’s constitution mandated that important political offices be rotated between the north and the south.
The PDP constitution clearly stated that it shall adhere at all times to the policy of the rotation and zoning of the party and public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice, and fairness. This was done in recognition of the need to share and rotate key political offices among the diverse people of our country.
“The leadership abandoned the constitutional clause and flipped the rationale on its head, even after PDP national Chairman Iyorchia Ayu vowed firmly to resign should a Northerner win the presidency in the 2023 election.
Remember how the PDP in 2019 permitted the North to participate in the presidential primaries in Port Harcourt, Rivers, where Atiku Abubakar won the ticket and ran in the election?
It was anticipated that the PDP would enable the South to compete for the top job in 2023, but the party decided to open the race to candidates from both the North and the South.
Atiku Abubakar “received the ticket again in a twist of events and political manipulation,” according to Mr. Nnamani.
The G.5 Governors, who insisted on upholding the North/South rotation idea, were among the southern PDP faithful who were outraged by the results of the presidential primaries, he continued.
According to Mr. Nnamani, the PDP’s actions amounted to injustice and a lack of equity, and it was immoral to continue to hold power in the north after President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office in 2023.
According to the former governor, Mr. Buhari opened a window for political balancing in acknowledgement of the North and South power rotation, which allowed Mr. Tinubu to become the APC presidential candidate.
After carefully analyzing the issue, he concluded that Bola Tinubu was the best candidate from the south to pay the bills in 2023.
