According to the Nigeria Police Force, crossdressers like Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also referred to as Bobrisky, cannot be arrested. Calls have been made for Bobrisky’s custody,
Bobrisky has been the target of requests for his arrest, particularly following his contentious win as Best Dressed Female at a Nollywood function.
Because of his moral position, which is against the Constitution, socialites like Portable and VeryDarkMan had summoned the police to come get him.
Crossdressers cannot be detained since it is a risky situation, according to Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who spoke with Channels TV on Tuesday.
According to him, cross-dressing is not yet illegal in Nigeria.
He added that although there may be claims that transvestites are also members of the LGBTQ community, there isn’t any concrete proof to support those claims, thus legal action against them isn’t possible.
Certain instances are invariably exceedingly challenging to prove. Not that we don’t have a lot of them. Let’s be realistic: without solid proof against the person you wish to charge, you cannot have them. I’ve not come across any literature stating that crossdressing is illegal in Nigeria.
It is alleged that some of the people who participate in crossdressing are interested in something else. That is the source of the issue. To demonstrate that they are sincere in their interest, we must have sufficient and reliable proof. In Nigeria, all of above offenses are considered natural crimes and are subject to legal punishment.
