-Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule Reunite Publicly Amid Rivers Crisis Truce
Joint Appearance Follows Tinubu’s Peace Meeting in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday made a public appearance alongside suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and suspended Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, at the burial of his uncle in Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The unexpected reunion, witnessed by political observers and locals alike, follows closely on the heels of a high-stakes peace meeting in Abuja, where President Bola Tinubu intervened to resolve the prolonged political crisis rocking Rivers State.

The ceremony, which was attended by several dignitaries, came just days after Tinubu convened the warring factions at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. At the closed-door meeting, the President held talks with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and members of the suspended state legislature, urging them to bury the hatchet and embrace peace.

President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, citing rising insecurity and breakdown of governance due to the conflict between Wike’s loyalists and the Fubara-led executive. The emergency declaration led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

Emerging from the meeting, Wike told reporters that both factions had reached an agreement to end hostilities and work collaboratively to restore political stability in the state.

“We have agreed to move forward as one, for the peace and progress of Rivers State,” Wike said.

Saturday’s public appearance of the key figures in the crisis — all in one place — is seen as a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, though many Nigerians remain cautiously optimistic about the longevity of the truce.
