Wike OKs N1 Billion To Aid Flood Victims In Rivers

The sum of N1 billion has been allocated by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, governor of Rivers State, for immediate relief efforts to assist flood victims, particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas of the State.

The governor, who sympathized with the flood victims, also established a taskforce to plan the distribution of aid supplies to the state’s impacted communities.

The money, according to Wike, was intended to help vulnerable families in the two local government areas, which were the most affected in the State, deal with the devastating flood water that has inundated homes, farmlands, and forced residents of affected communities to move to safer places, according to a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by his media, Kelvin Ebiri.

He stated that Dr. George Nwaeke, the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau (SSB) in the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, will preside as the Taskforce’s chairman, with Mrs. Inime I. Aguma serving as the Taskforce’s secretary.

The Taskforce also includes the Hon. Hope Ikiriko of Ahoada West LGA, the Hon. Vincent Job of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, the Hon. Onowu Emeka Anyasodike of the Ministry of Special Duties, and the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Special Duties.
On Thursday, the Taskforce’s whole membership will meet with the governor at Government House in Port Harcourt.

The Governor of Rivers State has nominated 28,000 Special Assistants with immediate effect for the State’s political units.

Recall that on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the governor nominated 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers and 319 Ward Liaison Officers.
