- Ex-Rivers Governor faults Fubara’s approach to state legislature
- Claims governor is playing to the gallery instead of fostering peace
- Ultimatum looms as Assembly demands budget resubmission in 48 hours
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has branded the budget representation letter sent by Governor Simi Fubara to the Rivers State House of Assembly as “useless.”
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike—who served as the immediate past governor of Rivers State—faulted Fubara’s approach, insisting that the governor is not genuinely committed to restoring peace in the state.
His remarks come on the heels of an ultimatum issued by Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who gave Fubara 48 hours to resubmit the 2025 budget. The directive followed a Supreme Court ruling delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which reinstated 27 lawmakers and ordered them to resume their legislative duties immediately.
Criticizing Fubara’s handling of the standoff, Wike argued that the governor should prioritize mending ties with the state legislature rather than engaging in political theatrics.
“Writing a letter to the Rivers House of Assembly is useless. He’s only playing to the gallery,” Wike asserted.
