• Says Diri should focus on governance, not imaginary threats

• Questions governor’s fear of Wike’s influence

• Recalls Diri once begged Wike for support

Lere Olayinka, the spokesman for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri’s security concerns over a planned political rally, calling them a “shamefully baseless” ploy to mask his failures.

Olayinka, who serves as Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, berated Diri for raising alarm over an event he had no evidence of, insisting that if Wike intended to attend any rally, he would personally notify security agencies.

He criticized the governor for summoning a Security Council and Bayelsa Elders’ Council meeting over mere speculation, wondering if governance in Bayelsa had been reduced to paranoia. He also questioned Diri’s sudden hostility toward Wike, recalling how the governor once sought Wike’s support for reelection, even kneeling before him in desperation.

“Is this how much the governor fears Wike? Can he stop people from holding rallies in Bayelsa if they choose to?” Olayinka asked.

He accused Diri of hypocrisy, stating that the same Wike he now attacks was once his political lifeline. “Shamefully, he has turned around to disparage Wike just to conceal his inadequacies,” he added.
