|By Chinwendu Nwani – Williams Kumuyi Rejects Church Succession to Sons, Says Church Belongs to Christ
Williams Kumuyi rejects church succession to sons and says no General Overseer has the authority to transfer a church to a family member.
The founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry made the remarks while addressing public speculation over who would succeed him after his tenure.
In a video that has attracted widespread attention online, Kumuyi stressed that the church belongs to Jesus Christ alone.
“It is the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and nobody has the right to hand it over to his son,” he said.
Kumuyi explained that people had questioned whether one of his sons would eventually take over leadership of the ministry.
However, he dismissed the idea and cited biblical figures including Peter, Paul and John, noting that none handed the church to their children.
The cleric maintained that Christ remains the owner of the church and insisted that God’s will should determine future leadership.
His comments have reignited discussions about succession planning in Nigerian churches.
