In a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, a dispatch rider named Monday Osazuwa testified that former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele instructed him not to document any financial transactions conducted on his behalf. Osazuwa, the first prosecution witness in Emefiele’s trial, resumed his testimony after Justice Rahman Oshodi approved an application for his recall.

Emefiele is facing serious charges, including alleged abuse of office and money laundering involving $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion. During cross-examination by Emefiele’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Olalekan Ojo, Osazuwa confirmed that Emefiele had explicitly advised him on multiple occasions to refrain from documenting any details regarding the funds he collected or delivered. He acknowledged that he had no documentation or receipts from either Emefiele or co-defendant Henry Omoile related to these transactions and admitted there were no witnesses present during the fund transfers to Emefiele.

Prior to Osazuwa’s testimony, Ifeoma Ogbonnaya, a business relationship manager with Zenith Bank and the fifth prosecution witness, concluded her own testimony. She stated that while she had communicated with Mrs. Margaret Emefiele regarding specific company accounts, there was no documented evidence linking these accounts to Godwin Emefiele or involving the second defendant, Henry Omoile.

Additionally, John Ogah, the sixth prosecution witness and a former Zenith Bank employee who served as Secretary for Administration to the CBN Governor, provided his testimony.

Justice Oshodi has adjourned the case until Wednesday, October 30, for further proceedings.
