Wizkid, a well-known Afrobeats artist, made history by being the first African performer to receive a nomination at the 50th American Music Awards (AMAs).
At the 2022 American Music Awards, he was recognized as the “favorite afrobeat artiste.”
Big Wiz was nominated for the first-ever Afrobeats category along with Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay, and Fireboy DML.
On its official Twitter account, the American Music Awards offered him their congratulations.

Wizzy responded by quoting the tweet and adding his bird emblem and the love symbol.
His “Essence” album, which also featured Tems, won an award in the category for “Favorite R&B song,” beating out competitors like Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and others.
