Famed Nigerian singer Wizkid has reignited the long-running debate over Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats artistes after boldly declaring himself the number one in the industry.

The Grammy-winning star made the statement amid renewed social media discussions surrounding the country’s so-called “Big 3” — a term used to describe Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, who are widely regarded as Nigeria’s most dominant global music exports.

Breaking his silence on the debate, Wizkid took to his Instagram Story, sharing a post that read: “Type sht. Big Wiz. Number 1,” boldly written on a whiteboard.

His declaration instantly ignited a fresh wave of fan reactions online, with many defending their favourites and reigniting arguments about who truly reigns supreme in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene.

The self-acclaimed “Starboy’s” comment comes just weeks after fellow Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage questioned the exclusion of Tems from the “Big 3” list. Tiwa had argued that any such conversation without Tems was incomplete, saying, “I feel like it’s unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention Tems.”

As fans continue to clash over Wizkid’s bold claim, one thing is certain — the rivalry and passion driving Nigeria’s vibrant Afrobeats culture remain as fierce as ever.
