Wolverhampton Wanderers have parted ways with manager Gary O’Neil after a dismal run of four straight defeats. The club, currently 19th in the Premier League, has accumulated only nine points from 16 matches, with just two wins this season. Their recent 1-2 loss to newly-promoted Ipswich Town highlighted the team’s struggles.
O’Neil, who took over at Molineux just days before the start of the 2023/24 season, was tasked with a significant challenge. Despite some positive moments, including guiding the team through a difficult campaign, Wolves have been plagued by defensive issues, having conceded 40 goals, the worst record in the league.
Off-field problems, including the stripping of the captaincy from Mario Lemina, have further complicated matters for the club. In an official statement, Wolves thanked O’Neil for his dedication and hard work, with club president Jeff Shi wishing him and his staff the best for the future. During his 63 games in charge, O’Neil recorded 20 wins, 11 draws, and 32 losses.
