Babatunji Wusu –
The Federal Capital Territory’s labor force has stated that there is no disagreement with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on salary reductions and benefits.
Matilukuro Oluwakorede, the President of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the FCT Administration (FCTA), announced this over the weekend in a statement.
In response to media allegations that stated Wike is slashing salaries and allowances in the face of inflation, Oluwakorede expressed his disapproval.
The president of JUAC declared that the union loves the minister and that, as of right now, there are no problems among the staff.
Oluwakorede consequently pleaded with the public to ignore the circulating information, claiming that it was not sourced from his union.
“The public should ignore the information in circulation,” he declared. We are not the source of it. We met and decided on the best course of action to handle our internal problem.
“We don’t have anything to do with the current web trends.
“We adore our pastor. As I am speaking with you, we have no issues with him, and I would like to be quoted everywhere.
Oluwakorede clarified that JUAC had campaigned for certain allowances, but that the allowances were not included in the 2023 budget when speaking about the wage issue.
The allowances were described by the JUAC president as “one or two other allowances like that,” a special allowance, and a hazard allowance.
He clarified that the allowances exceeded the FCTA and FCDA personnel budget and mentioned that the FCTA administration had contacted the committee leadership to discuss the matter.
Olwakorede stated that although it may have an impact on odd allowances, everyone at the meeting decided that the October salary should be paid with the money still in the vault.
“We acknowledge that the limited funds may impact the special allowance, and we agree to reduce it by one month while the FCT Administration takes the necessary action against the remaining months,” he stated.
“so that by November, everything gets back to normal.” I’m not sure why journalists are simply profiting off this, though.
“However, I want to be clear that we don’t have any issues with our esteemed minister, the state minister, or even the FCTA permanent secretary.
“This decision is in the best interest of staff generally, and we have a good relationship.”
