Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, has received the support of a sociocultural group of Yoruba elders working under the direction of the Yoruba Council of Elders.
The decision was made, according to the Council, following a special executive session over the weekend.
In a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole, the Council expressed its conviction that Tinubu’s experience as a former governor of Lagos, his detribalized nature, resourcefulness and love for humanity put him in a strong position to rescue Nigeria from its precarious position.
YCE urged everyone to exercise caution and more tolerance while expressing what it called a “full understanding” of the altered climate around the fuel shortage and currency swap. This is so that the Federal Government can address the issue as promised by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the elders, only a seasoned, tried-and-true, brave, and generally likable Nigerian citizen can stop the country’s apparent slide into disintegration, in which it has been seemingly sliding for years.
“Yoruba Council of Elders assert that the Yoruba, as a significant stakeholder in the Nigeria enterprise, should not be ignored in the politics of the country, noting that the practice of imposing unprepared, weak, and incompetent leaders on helpless Nigerians through the persistent maneuvering of ardent Yoruba nefarious will not be tolerated ever again.
“The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) declares its full support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid to become the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, noting that it is convinced that his experience as a former governor of Lagos state, his detribalized outlook, his resourceful capacity to manage well, and his love for humanity put him in a good position to rescue our nation Nigeria from the precipice from which it has been dangling.
“The YCE calls on everyone for restraint and more patience to allow the Federal Government to resolve the problem as promised by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement reads. “Expressing full understanding of the changed atmosphere surrounding the scarcity of fuel and currency swap.”
