Babatunji Wusu –

The Yobe State Government has confirmed the deaths of four individuals due to acute diarrhoea in Gujba Local Government Area. Dr. Lawan Gana, the Commissioner for Health, made this announcement to the press in Damaturu on Monday.

Dr. Gana explained that the disease was identified in the settlements of Jangalawaji and Tadandara within Gujba Ward. He noted that these villages had recently been affected by severe flooding, which might have contributed to the spread of the illness.

Samples from the affected individuals have been collected and are currently undergoing examination to determine the exact cause of the diarrhoea. Dr. Gana reassured the public that there is no need to panic, as the government is actively working to manage the situation and provide necessary support.

He also addressed rumors about a possible cholera outbreak in Gujba and Ngelzarma, clarifying that such claims are premature. According to Dr. Gana, only laboratory results can definitively confirm whether there is an outbreak of cholera or another waterborne disease.

The health authorities are focused on addressing the immediate concerns and preventing further spread of the disease, while continuing to monitor the situation closely.
