The Yobe State executive council has approved the purchase of Julite sesame seed cleaning and packing machinery in order to assist farmers in producing high-quality products for an improved value chain.
Yobe has been a leader in the production of sesame cash crops, with all 17 local government areas, particularly those on the northern outskirts, producing sesame in commercial quantities at the end of each farming season.
While briefing reporters on the outcome of the state executive council meeting in Damaturu, Hon. Mohammed Lamin, commissioner of Information, Home Affairs, and Culture, said the action was intended to increase output.
According to Lamin, the council approved the development of a modern market in Geidam town, the seat of the Geidam local government region, as part of initiatives to boost economic activity.
“Also approved was the purchase of four Nos. Julite sesame seed, cleaning, and packing equipment for a sum of N379, 475, 000.00.
“It also considered and approved the development of the Geidam Modern Market at a cost of N3, 894, 764, 036.56.”
“Council also sanctioned N1, 251, 489, 253.62 for the construction of a Mega Shopping Mall in Damaturu,” the commissioner added.
“It also considered revised extra works and augmentation for the Potiskum Track Transit Park construction at a cost of N1, 442, 071, 767.61,” Lamin stated.
According to the commissioner, the council has also sanctioned N3, 129, 608, 370.00 for the acquisition of empowerment items.
