The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over an alleged plan by some politicians to disrupt the scheduled visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state.

Addressing journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, accused unnamed political figures of hiring gun-wielding thugs to attack Matawalle’s convoy and cause unrest during the minister’s homecoming slated for Thursday.

Idris said the alleged plan was designed to distract attention from Matawalle’s visit, which would feature meetings with APC leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and his hometown, Maradun.

“Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit,” Idris told reporters.

He claimed that the attack was being plotted along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly around Tsafe, and urged security agencies to intensify surveillance and apprehend anyone found attempting to breach the peace.

The APC spokesperson further cautioned party members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, warning against carrying weapons or engaging in any act that could lead to violence.

“We are warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond, to ensure peace and order,” Idris added.

He called on the police and other security agencies to take proactive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order during the minister’s visit.
