Zamfara Launches Cash Transfer Program for 44,000 Beneficiaries

•  Governor Lawal Prioritizes Women with 60% Allocation

• N150,000 Boost for Small Businesses to Drive Growth

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has launched the NG-CARES Cash Transfer program, targeting 44,000 beneficiaries across the state. This initiative, which aims to alleviate economic hardships, is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to empower its residents and drive local economic growth.

Governor Lawal highlighted the program’s success, noting that over one million beneficiaries have been recorded across previous cycles, generating a total of N64 billion. The program, launched on Tuesday, features two main categories:

• Labour-Intensive Public Workfare Scheme: Beneficiaries will earn N20,000 monthly for one year, with 60% allocated to women and 40% to men.
• Social Transfers: Vulnerable groups such as the physically challenged, the elderly, and chronically ill individuals will receive N10,000 monthly for a year.

In addition, small-scale business owners will receive N150,000 each to enhance their operations, while targeted groups like female-headed households and scholars will benefit from one-time grants of N50,000.

Governor Lawal emphasized that these interventions are designed to uplift lives, empower diverse groups, and strengthen the state’s local economy. He commended the NG-CARES Steering Committee for their transparent and efficient implementation, urging beneficiaries to utilize the resources effectively.

Deputy Governor Malan Mumuni Mani warned local government chairmen to ensure fair and complaint-free disbursement, stressing that any lapses would attract strict accountability.
