  • Miomir Kecmanovic beats world No. 4 in three sets
  • Serbian earns first career win over a top-five player
  • Tournament loses top four seeds after shock exits

Top seed Alexander Zverev suffered a shock exit at the ATP Acapulco Open on Wednesday, falling in three sets to unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.

Kecmanovic, ranked 84th in the world, secured a 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 7-6 (7/4) victory over the world number four, marking his first career win against a top-five opponent. The 25-year-old had previously lost all 11 of his encounters against players ranked in the top five.

Zverev was competing in his first tournament since his semifinal loss to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open.

Kecmanovic dominated the opening set before Zverev battled back to force a decider. After two hours and 35 minutes, the Serbian sealed the win, aided by 17 unforced backhand errors from the German.

“It feels amazing,” Kecmanovic said. “Obviously, he’s the big favourite, so I didn’t have any pressure there, but you still have to play well when it matters, close out the match, and thankfully it went my way.”

With Zverev’s defeat, the ATP 500 hardcourt event has now seen its top four seeds eliminated. Second seed Alex de Minaur exited on Monday, third seed Casper Ruud lost on Tuesday, while fourth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was beaten in straight sets by Italy’s Mattia Bellucci on Wednesday.
