According to the state’s current laws and regulations, the Lagos State Government claims it will arraign 14 LASTMA employees before a disciplinary panel for extortion and high-handedness.
This was revealed in a statement that the General Manager’s representative, Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Department of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, signed. Over the weekend, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the traffic regulatory body
Oreagba claims that the impacted staff members include 11 Senior and 3 Junior Lastma Officers who were apprehended extorting money (bribes) from drivers at various points throughout the state.
Additionally, he stated that their cases were P.M.B., and that they would be subject to disciplinary actions.
Emphasizing the necessity of openness inside the Agency, Oreagba maintained that he would continue to impose harsh penalties on men and officers with the support of the state government in an attempt to rid the agency of a few rotten apples damaging its reputation.
The General Manager gave all Agency officers advice to always perform their duties fearlessly and in compliance with the laws that govern authority, as any employee found to be involved in tarnishing the Agency’s or the Government’s reputation will likewise be held accountable.
Oreagba praised Lastma officials for their commitment, obedience, devotion, and professionalism, but cautioned drivers to refrain from paying bribes to traffic officials so they won’t be prosecuted because the law 8 disapproves of both the “giver and the receiver.”
We thus urged locals, in particular the driving public, to assist us by reporting any dishonest Officers as soon as possible to the closest LASTMA offices or by using any of the Agency’s complaint hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597) together with supporting documentation.
