Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor in Zamfara state, has decried an attempt on his life after his wife, two security men, and five civilians were allegedly attacked by thugs in the region.

Speaking to reporters on Friday at his home in the state capital of Gusau, PDP candidate for governor Dr. Dauda Lawal bemoaned the critical injuries sustained by a police inspector and sergeant in a shooting on Thursday night.

He claims that the event happened about 11.30 p.m. as his wife and her group were traveling back from Gusau’s Tudun Wada neighborhood.

I request your attention to an event that occurred yesterday at approximately 11.30 p.m. “My wife was attacked by purported state government anti-thuggery, two security attached to my wife convoy were also shoot and critically hurt around AA Rano in Tudun wada region,” I write.

He emphasized how distressing and inappropriate the current situation is regarding attacks on their members.

He urged the Civil Defense, Inspector General of Police, and other security organizations to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and see that justice is served.

He further urged PDP supporters in the state to maintain composure and carry out their civil duties.

Bello Bakyasuwa, the commander of the state agency for anti-theft in Zamfara, responded to the claimed attack by calling the accusations unfounded.

Bakyasuwa revealed that they were on duty when the political thugs attacked them around midnight. “It’s not true; we have not attacked any innocent individuals. We exclusively retaliate against attacks on our troops.”

“We are making arrests and will keep making arrests as per our mandate.”
