20 kidnapped prospective NYSC members rescued in Imo State have been freed in an intelligence-led operation involving the military, Department of State Services (DSS), police and other security agencies.

The victims were among prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped in the South-East state.

Security agencies carried out the operation after gathering intelligence on the victims and their abductors.

The operation also led to the rescue of another hostage whose identity was not immediately disclosed.

The 20 kidnapped prospective NYSC members rescued during the operation have since been taken to a DSS facility for medical attention.

Officials said the victims are receiving treatment while their condition is being monitored.

The rescue involved several security formations. These included the military, DSS, police and other agencies involved in security operations in the state.

However, authorities have not disclosed details about the location where the victims were held or whether any suspects were arrested during the operation.

Kidnapping remains a major security challenge in parts of Nigeria. Security agencies have continued to conduct intelligence-led operations aimed at locating abducted people and disrupting criminal groups.

In this case, the joint operation enabled security personnel to locate and free the victims.

The rescue of the 20 kidnapped prospective NYSC members rescued in Imo State comes as security agencies continue efforts to protect citizens and prevent further abductions.

The NYSC deploys young Nigerians to different parts of the country for the compulsory national service programme. Security concerns in some areas have, however, raised concerns about the safety of corps members and prospective corps members.

For now, the rescued victims remain under medical observation as security agencies continue their investigation into the kidnapping.
