Campaign posters positioning Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, for president in 2023 have surfaced online, following Bello’s meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo and Bello met at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Sunday, further fuelling claims that the governor would be running for president in 2023.
As of noon on Monday, Bello was the top trend on Twitter Nigeria, with old and fresh presidential posters surfacing online.
In November, Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi information commissioner, said the governor has been under pressure to run for the office of the president in 2023.
Thereafter in December, the Kogi house of assembly endorsed him for the country’s highest office.
Femi Fani-Kayode, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently met with Bello, said the meeting with Obasanjo was “pregnant with meaning”.
Bello, who is the incumbent governor of Kogi state, had said he had got support from many youth groups for him to run for president in 2023.
One of such groups said known as North Central Coalition For Leadership said “Yahaya Bello is the most favorable for the office of the president, coming from a geo-political zone (North-Central) that has never produced a democratically elected president in democratic Nigeria”.
The Kogi governor has not officially declared that he will be running for president, but has been meeting some political leaders across the nation, with the latest being Obasanjo.
The news of Bello’s potential run is driving conversations on social media; some say he is not fit to be president, some others encourage the governor to run.
