The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has stated that athletes who qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics will begin camping on Sunday, June 2.
It’s worth noting that 88 competitors have qualified to represent Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with more expected in the coming days.
According to the sports minister, athletes who qualified for the Paris Olympics would camp in three Nigerian states, as well as in Abuja. The three states are: Lagos, Bayelsa, and Oyo.
After camping in Nigeria, the athletes will embark on a camping trip of nations near to France, including Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United States.
This will allow the competitors to focus more on their preparations for the Paris Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
During a ministerial strategic technical meeting attended by presidents, secretaries, and technical directors from the 11 Olympic-bound sports federations, the minister stated that the ministry aimed to surpass Nigeria’s best performance in the tournament, which occurred at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.
“A combination of home camping and international training visits is needed. It ensures that our athletes are well-prepared and ready to compete at the top levels,” the Sports Minister stated.
He went on to say, “We should strive to outperform our previous Olympic achievement. We must build on our previous triumphs and aim for perfection in Paris 2024.”
