The Rescue Nigeria Alliance (RNA) has intensified pressure on the Senate, demanding the immediate restoration of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of polling-unit results in the amended Electoral Act or risk sustained nationwide protests.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, the group declared that any attempt to dilute electoral transparency amounts to what it described as an “assault on the Republic” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
RNA National Chairman, Dr. Basil Nwolisa, alongside National Secretary, Akor Christian Oche, criticised the National Assembly—particularly the Senate—for rejecting compulsory real-time electronic upload of election results during a five-hour clause-by-clause consideration of 155 provisions in the amendment bill.
The group described the decision as a dangerous regression capable of undermining public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
According to the RNA, it has maintained protest actions since Monday, February 9, 2026, and will escalate peaceful civic demonstrations beginning Monday, February 16, 2026. The planned protests are expected to take place at and around the National Assembly complex and other symbolic locations across the country.
“It’s either they restore the real-time electronic transmission or face total protest,” the group declared.
RNA further condemned what it called the rejection of mandatory electronic transmission after exhaustive legislative review, arguing that the move threatens transparency and electoral integrity as the nation prepares for the 2027 polls.
“This decision is a direct attack on transparency, a dangerous setback for our democracy, and a reckless gamble with Nigeria’s stability as 2027 approaches,” the group stated.
The development signals renewed tension over electoral reforms, with civil society groups closely watching the Senate’s next move on the contentious amendment.
