In order to secure the release of the 23 remaining kidnapped train passengers, the Federal Government claimed on Friday that no money had been paid.

The Federal Government added that preparations are being made to quickly resume the halted rail operation.

However, it stated that it will develop a viable short- and long-term plan in a few months to guarantee the safety of the rail line and the passengers.

These were made public by the minister of transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, in Abuja at a press conference held to formally welcome the 23 abducted train passengers who had been freed.

 

After several hours of waiting, the minister revealed why the released victims were not present despite the ministry’s hints that they would be.

The military and security services received assistance from a group made up of some retired generals and several retired high-ranking public officials during the process of securing the release of these captives.

“Thirdly, I want to clarify unequivocally that no kobo was given in exchange for the release of these 23 hostages and other hostages as well since our government does not support and approve ransom payment,” she continued.
