Six of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System’s BVAS, according to the Independent National Election Commission INEC, have been stolen by political events in the states of Delta and Katsina.
When submitting a preliminary report on the Presidential and National Assembly Elections at the National Collation in Abuja on Saturday, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu revealed this.
According to him, two BVAS machines were destroyed when thugs invaded a polling location in Delta State’s Oshimili LGA. Nonetheless, as I said earlier, we were able to replace the stolen BVAS machines, beef up security, and voting resumed at that polling place because we were determined that the election must go on.
“In a similar manner, thugs invaded one of our polling places in Safana LGA of Katsina State and stole 6 BVAS machines. But once more, we were able to recover and use the extra BVAS computers while stepping up security to allow voting to proceed there.
“Security forces have successfully retrieved three BVAS units, while three are still being held by thugs. So, rather than our ballots or ballot boxes, the BVAS machines were the target of attacks in these places.
