In order to strengthen the personnel demand in the state legal system, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun will today ordain eight additional judges, as per the proposal of the National Judiciary Commission (NJC) in January of this year.

The governor said the approval of the new judges was in accordance with the NJC’s recommendation during its 100th meeting last January 2023 as well as the provisions of Section 271 sub-section (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 in a statement released yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital (as amended).

According to Somorin, the new judges were chosen “based on seniority, ability, and a demonstrated history of performance.

The judges are Oluwafunke Omolara Odubanjo, chief registrar of the High Court of Justice; Awofeso Ireti-Olu Babatunde, chief magistrate; Adelaja Adeola Ireti, deputy chief registrar of the High Court of Justice; Adebayo Bamidele Adedapo, solicitor general and permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice; and Basirat Bolanle Adebowale, secretary of the Judici

Ayodele Adebayo Omoniyi, an attorney with a private practice in Ilaro, Sunday Olufemi Adeniyi, an attorney with a private practice in Lagos, and Abimbola Christopher Shokunbi, an attorney with a practice in Lagos, round out the group.
