Ecobank Nigeria has marked the 14th edition of Ecobank Day across four regions, promoting digital education and inclusion for young people and persons with disabilities.

The bank selected four schools for the initiative: Hope Fountain Foundation for the Deaf in Agege, Lagos; Ibadan School for the Deaf in Ibadan; Special Secondary School for the Deaf in Odakpu, Onitsha; and Kaduna State Special Education School in Kaduna.

This year’s celebration focused on “Digital Education”, with activities designed to equip students with digital skills to support their education, personal growth and future careers.

Through the programme, Ecobank aims to expand access to technology and help young Africans develop the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills needed in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Bank employees visited the selected schools to deliver digital literacy sessions and donate learning materials and educational resources. The activities were designed to improve students’ access to knowledge and prepare them for future opportunities.

Speaking at the event, Ecobank Nigeria Managing Director and Regional Executive, Bolaji Lawal, said the initiative reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting communities beyond its core banking services.

“It is a pleasure to join you today as we commemorate the 14th edition of Ecobank Day, our Group-wide Corporate Social Responsibility initiative dedicated to creating meaningful impact across the communities we serve. “Ecobank Day reflects our commitment to being more than a bank. It demonstrates our dedication to empowering people and contributing to sustainable development across Africa.”

Lawal stressed that digital education was essential for closing knowledge gaps and creating opportunities, particularly for young people living with disabilities. He said access to digital skills could help them participate more fully in the modern economy.

School proprietors and administrators praised the bank’s efforts, describing the programme as a timely step towards improving students’ access to digital knowledge. They also thanked Ecobank for supporting inclusive education and investing in young people’s futures.

For 14 years, Ecobank Day has provided a platform for employees across Africa to volunteer and address important social challenges. The initiative continues to support sustainable development and positive change in the communities where the bank operates.
