Former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has reportedly died, according to sources close to his family who spoke to SaharaReporters on Monday.
Details surrounding his reported death remained unclear at the time of the report, and further information about the circumstances had yet to emerge.
One source confirmed the news, saying, “Uduaghan is no more; he is dead.”
The development follows false reports of his death that circulated on social media in June, prompting his family to publicly dismiss the claims.
The rumours spread across Facebook and WhatsApp on Wednesday, June 26, causing concern among residents and political stakeholders in Delta State.
Uduaghan’s media aide, Henry Unini, responded at the time by assuring the public that the former governor was alive.
“I can tell you for a fact that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is alive,” Unini said.
He questioned the source of the earlier claims and warned against publishing reports of someone’s death without proper verification.
Unini also recalled an incident involving the late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, who reportedly heard an announcement of his own death and wondered why the report had not been verified with the appropriate sources.
The aide acknowledged that Uduaghan had been dealing with health challenges but said he was receiving medical care.
“It is now common knowledge that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has been sick, but he is receiving proper medical care,” Unini said at the time.
He added that the former governor was recovering and sought to reassure the public, stating, “There is no cause for alarm whatsoever.”
Unini also thanked friends, supporters and Delta State residents who contacted the family to check on Uduaghan’s condition. He urged the public to keep the former governor and his family in their prayers and said further updates would be shared when necessary.
He described the earlier death rumours as unnecessary and appealed for caution when sharing unverified information.
