Real Madrid continued their impressive run in the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 with a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday. The result extended Madrid’s winning streak across all competitions to four matches and strengthened its confidence ahead of Sunday’s La Liga Clasico against Barcelona.
Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and substitute Yan Diomande scored for Jose Mourinho’s side, which has collected nine points from its first three Champions League matches.
Leipzig started brightly and nearly took the lead when Romulo Cardoso forced Thibaut Courtois into a fine low save. Vinicius Junior tested goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt at the other end, but Madrid found it difficult to break through the visitors’ defence during much of the first half.
The breakthrough came shortly before half-time. Federico Valverde found Guler inside the penalty area, and although Vandevoordt stopped the midfielder’s effort, he could not hold the ball. Silva reacted quickly to score the rebound from close range, marking his first goal for Madrid since joining from Manchester City.
Madrid carried its momentum into the second half. After Vandevoordt denied Valverde, Guler doubled the lead in the 52nd minute. Jude Bellingham crossed towards the far post, where Mbappe headed the ball across goal for the Turkish midfielder to finish.
Mbappe later struck the side-netting after another pass from Bellingham. However, the French forward soon found the target when substitute Diomande set him up on the edge of the box, allowing him to curl a shot beyond Vandevoordt.
Leipzig pulled one back when Tidiam Gomis took advantage of a defensive mistake by Dean Huijsen to beat Courtois.
Madrid restored its three-goal advantage late in the match as Diomande volleyed Brahim Diaz’s cross into the top corner. The winger celebrated his third goal in four appearances.
The Real Madrid Champions League campaign remains perfect, with three wins from three matches, despite the team’s inconsistent domestic form.
Can Madrid carry this European momentum into Sunday’s Clasico against Barcelona?
