A British woman who moved to Nigeria to start a new life with her husband has died alongside her unborn baby after developing sepsis.

Claire Chadwick, 40, was 37 weeks pregnant when she developed the infection and later died from septic shock after her baby girl died in the womb.

Chadwick, who had moved from the UK to be with her husband, Ibrahim, had built a large social media following in recent years. The couple regularly shared videos on TikTok and Instagram about food challenges, their faith and their relationship.

Her grieving family have launched a GoFundMe campaign, hoping to raise £10,000 to bring her body and that of her unborn child back to the UK for burial.

Her sister, Shannon, said the family wanted both returned home so they could be laid to rest with dignity and surrounded by loved ones.

“More than anything, we want them both returned so they can be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by the family who love them,” she said.

Shannon added that Claire is survived by her 19-year-old son in Wales, her husband and other family members who loved her dearly.

“She was a woman who lived her life in her own way and she will leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew her,” she told WalesOnline.

The family said the response to the fundraising campaign had been overwhelming. Shannon also thanked REST, a charity that supports families dealing with the sudden or tragic death of loved ones abroad.

Tributes have also poured in from people who knew Claire and followed her online. Several described her as kind, caring and funny.

One supporter recalled dancing with her during childhood and wished her eternal rest. Another described her as a kind and caring woman, while a third remembered her for making people laugh.

Claire was also described by those close to her as funny and fiercely strong-minded.
