Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna Central has questioned the silence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after its national leader, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday spoke against the Presidency’s planned increase of Value Added Tax (VAT).

Tinubu, during a colloquium held in his honour to mark his 67th birthday at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja, told the federal government to stop the planned increase in VAT.

The federal government had said it would increase VAT to 7.5 per cent in order to offset the demands of N30,000 new minimum wage on the nation’s treasury.

Tinubu then said that instead of increasing VAT, the government should widen the tax net and ensure that more Nigerians pay tax.

Sani, who used to be a member of APC before defecting to Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), said in a tweet on Friday that the APC would have come out at anybody else who gives such advice publicly.
