Explosions and sporadic gunshots experienced last night at about 8:00pm was a failed attack on the military position at Dalori IDP camp. Residents and security officials confirmed the development said that in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Security sources in the area also said, an artillery was shelled towards the axis of the militants, and they subsequently retreated.
“From this axis, our problem is that up till now, Alagarno, Talala and Ajigil areas have remained unpenetrated. We had on several occasions attempted to penetrate those areas on ground but to no avail and the insurgents are having their field days in those axes,” he lamented.
He said there was the need for an all-out air bombardment in those areas to finish with these criminals and also push ground forces to clear the remaining Boko Haram fighters in those axes who always come in to terrorize innocent people.
Residents of Dalori also said that there was an earlier report by some farmers that they saw movement of people in military uniforms prior to the attack.
“When we received such information as community leaders, we would quickly report to the soldiers. Until they started firing in the evening, we thought those farmers saw military patrol earlier on. But it turned out that, those they reported to have seen were militants afterall,” Alhaji Kambar said.
