The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has announced the suspension of its seven-day strike ultimatum given to Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) and its contractors.

NUPENG on a Aug.20 issued the seven-day ultimate to CNL Aug. 20  and its contractors over the sack of workers through WhatsApp messages

NUPENG’s National President, Mr Williams Akporeha and its General-Secretary, Mr Afolabi Olawale, in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, said it suspended its strike following ongoing discussions to quickly resolve other outstanding labour issues.

“However, NUPENG reiterates that the suspension of the strike ultimatum is not a total call off, but to respect ongoing discussions with Chevron and its contractors.

“The discussions include all the issues at stake, believing that management will act in good faith and decently in line with principles of social dialogue.

“The leadership of the union appreciates all relevant government agencies for their quick interventions on the matters in dispute,” NAN quoted him as saying.
