Using the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore criticized the 2023 budget that President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) just presented to the National Assembly.
He stated this at a symposium on the subject of “Nigeria: Adopting Sustainability for Economic Prosperity” held by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.
The budget that President Buhari proposed to the National Assembly is unlawful, according to Sowore. It violates Section 12 (1) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007, which limits the ratio of the deficit to GDP at under 3%. About 5% of what President Muhammadu Buhari presented.
Additionally, he said that the nation could not afford to have an ill president take office in 2023.
“Clap your hands if you wagered that a particular presidential candidate wouldn’t show up today; you won.
“The applicant who failed to appear was meant to be a Chicago State University accounting expert, but he declined to attend the most significant accountants’ gathering in Nigeria today. Remember that even if I’ve stated that I won’t discuss other candidates, the nation of Nigeria and its future cannot continue to anticipate unviable candidates in 2023, he added.
However, he made fun of Ahmed Idris, the suspended former accountant general, in relation to an alleged money laundering case that was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“I wish I could have stood in front of you and discussed sustainability, but I’m here to discuss issues that are no longer sustainable in Nigeria. The theft of more than N150 billion by the Accountant General of the Federation is an unsustainable act of accounting, and I want to talk about one of you who committed it.
