Sule Balarabe, the commissioner of the Cross River State Police, reiterated the command’s readiness for the state’s elections in 2023.
Balarabe further emphasized that the Command has taken the necessary steps to ensure that all political campaigns and the 2023 general elections are conducted peacefully throughout the state before, during, and after the elections.
When the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River state council paid a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Calabar on Monday, Balarabe, who recently took over as the state’s commissioner of police, provided the assurance.
The CP stated that we will uphold the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Alkali Usman’s mission and vision, which includes, among other things, policing in accordance with international best practices, rule of law, and respect for fundamental human rights at all times. We will not be partial, we will play by the rules, and we will also uphold these goals.
In his own words: “Before, during, and after elections, all political campaigns and the 2023 general election will be conducted peacefully throughout the state by the Cross Rive State Police Command.
I also utilize this platform to urge relevant parties, political party leaders, and all good individuals to follow the law and conduct themselves in a lawful manner without fear of harassment.
“In a same spirit, youths are counseled to abstain from political thuggery, social vices, and other acts of violence in favor of engaging in worthwhile endeavors.
It is a known fact that Cross River, one of Nigeria’s top tourist destinations, calls for increased cooperation, professionalism, an information network to facilitate communication policing, and other necessary support to improve performance thus far and enable us to root out criminal elements and saboteurs who are sustaining the dear state.

Nsa Gill, the chairman of the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, had earlier welcomed the CP to the region and thanked him for the opportunity to work with the police on collaborative projects.
The visit, according to the NUJ Chairman, was essential given the significant responsibilities that the two organizations play in society, particularly in light of the impending 2023 elections.
He emphasized that another purpose of his trip was to renew ties with respectable groups working to promote social advancement.
He gave the CP his word that under his direction, media professionals will always uphold the highest ethical standards when performing their jobs.
