Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), responded to detractors of his educational background by criticizing them for wasting their money on a fruitless search.
At a Monday Chatham House event, Tinubu claimed to have been born on March 29, 1952, and that he had never disowned his biological father.
He claimed that one of his rivals, who has been funding many accusations against him, is now thought to be a non-Nigerian, but that Tinubu has never used this as a campaign issue.
Tinubu claimed during his time at Chicago State University that he is now in possession of his original certificate.
“I was dated March 29, 1952,” he declared. My track record is reliable. There are records. It has the transcript. No other father is being claimed by me. I am a true Tinubu. They could request a DNA if they wanted one. One of them is alleged to not even be a citizen of Nigeria. I didn’t go near the spot. I’ve been confirmed by Deloitte. It can be verified by Chicago State University. I can now report that I have my original replacement degree certificate in hand.
“Deloitte gave me accounting training. My records are verified by Mobil. Who among them in the private sector can boast of these?
In a petition dated May 17, 2022, an APC member from Kano state named Sagir Mai Iyali requested that Tinubu be disqualified due to allegedly fake paperwork that he allegedly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in 1998.
Iyali said that Tinubu was beyond the legal age limit to run for president and that, in addition to his age, his name was also a secret.
