While waiting for the detailed report on the shooting and killing of Barrister Omobolanle Raheem, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has recommended the immediate suspension of Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, the officer attached to the Ajah Divisional Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command.
The IGP stated that the officer’s suspension recommendation is consistent with the Force’s internal disciplinary procedures.
The IGP stated in a statement issued by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force PRO, that the suspension is also meant to establish an enabling environment for essential legal procedures to be followed in order to maintain justice in the matter without interference.
The suspension is without prejudice to the officer’s constitutional presumption of innocence.
Meanwhile, the IGP has underlined the Force’s commitment to the Rule of Law and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that justice is not only done but also perceived to have been done in the issue. As a result, he urges the people to remain calm since all hands are on deck to guarantee justice is served, and steps have been put in place to prevent similar instances.
