Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, has paid glowing tributes to the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor George Obiozor, saying he served Nigeria with pride and distinction.

The APC candidate noted in a statement issued by the Tinubu Media Office on Thursday and signed by Tunde Rahman that Professor Obiozor’s career, which included stints as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Ambassador of Nigeria to the United States, Ambassador of Nigeria to Israel, and High Commissioner of Nigeria to Cyprus, established the Ohaneze Ndigbo leader as one of the country’s foremost patriots who served the country with diligence, honor, and integrity.

“Ambassador Obiozor served the country with pride and distinction, mourning, however, that death has once again deprived Nigeria of one of its finest statesmen,” he said.

Obiozor, a famous academic and diplomat, died Wednesday evening in Owerri, the state capital, according to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.

“I am extremely saddened by the news of the passing of Ambassador George Obiozor, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide,” Aswáj Tinubu remarked. This famous Igbo leader and elder statesman of Nigeria was a remarkable educator and diplomat who served his people and the entire country with honor, dedication, and distinction.

“Ambassador Obiozor’s passing at this time has again robbed our dear country of one of its finest public workers and committed leaders. As Ohaneze’s leader, Ambassador Obiozor advocated for national unity and economic development while pursuing a more equal and even-handed federation in which all member units and ethnic groups may coexist in peace and harmony.

“The ideas of a better and more inclusive country where justice and equity would prevail, which Ambassador Obiozor lived for will forever be cherished. On behalf of my family, I express condolences to Ambassador Obiozor’s family, the Federal Administration of Nigeria, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the government and people of Imo State, and the whole Igbo people on his death.

May God Almighty console his loved ones and all those he left behind, and may his spirit find eternal rest.”
