The House Ad-hoc Committee examining an alleged loss of over $2.4 billion due to the unlawful sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil export in 2015, including crude oil export from 2014 to the present, has promised individuals willing to provide critical information of their safety.

The committee also stated that whistleblowers’ identities and statements would be treated with strict confidentiality in accordance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption program.

Hon Mark Gbillah, the committee’s chairman, indicated that the committee was formed seven years after the occurrence since it was came to light in 2020 and the House need background information for a complete examination and resolution.

The committee sought the assistance of people and corporate organizations in order to carry out its task.

Hon Ganiyu Johnson, a member of the committee, explained that as part of efforts to revitalize the country’s various refineries, the House Committee on the State of Refineries visited some of the refineries and assured that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries would be fully operational by the first and fourth quarters of this year.

“Like I said earlier, this is the House Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the alleged loss of $2.4 billion from the sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil. The House has also mandated us to investigate crude oil sales from 2014 to the present, as well as whistleblower information and recoveries and expenditure of these recoveries,” he said. So, in summary, the House has required that this Ad-hoc Committee investigate the important concerns, and I would like to state that I have been assigned as the chairman of this committee by the speaker and members of the House of Representatives.
