Abiola Akinremi, 41, a Nigerian care home worker, was sentenced to 7 months in prison in the United Kingdom for stealing nearly £20,000 from the savings of vulnerable residents.
Akinremi, of Tilbury, Essex, pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud by abuse of position after it was revealed that she used her position as an administrator at Bostall House in Abbey Wood, southeast London, to make dozens of unauthorised withdrawals from patients’ bank accounts.
The mother of three was sentenced to prison at the Old Bailey for abusing vulnerable patients at the care home, some of whom were detained under the Mental Health Act. Those who do not have family support typically delegate control of their finances to administrators and caregivers.
