Early Morning Tragedy As Tanker Explodes In Lagos State

It was an early morning tragedy today as two persons, a male and a female, have been confirmed dead after a fire incident that occurred when a truck, loaded with 33,000 litres of petroleum product, fell and caught fire at Barracks Bus Stop, along the Mile 2/ Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 5am on Wednesday.

The premier news recall that two similar incidents like this have happened in Lagos between last year and now from the same source, Petroleum tanker explosion and claiming scores of vehicles and lives.

Two trucks and three cars were completely burnt as a result of the fire incident, while many others were trapped and rushed immediately to a nearby hospital.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, said that the two deceased persons were among the three occupants of a vehicle used for smuggling.

Oti said that the third person in the car suffered serious fire wounds.

“Four vehicles were involved. A tanker, a truck and two cars. Presently, two persons have been confirmed dead, three others, including the DPO suffered injuries. “However, effort are ongoing to restore normalcy to the area” he added.
