UEFA DONATES TO TURKEY, WHICH IS HOSTING THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL.

The country that will host the Champions League final in June, Turkey, suffered an earthquake on Thursday, and UEFA donated 200,000 euros (USD 214,000) on Friday to assist with relief efforts.

The governing body of European football also promised to plan more fundraising events in the days before the final on June 10 in Istanbul. Additionally, it is coordinating efforts among its 55 member associations to make donations to a fund for disaster relief.
In the beginning, UEFA gave the Turkish Football Federation 150,000 euros (USD 160,000) and the UEFA Foundation for Children a combined 50,000 euros (USD 54,000) to help two organizations working in the disaster zones in southern Turkey and Syria.

Prior to games in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League the next week, there will be a moment of silence, according to UEFA. Turkey will host one European competition game on Thursday. In the Europa Conference playoff round, Trabzonspor will host Basel, with players donning black armbands.

More than 20,000 people were dead and the area was completely devastated by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday.
