A special offenses court in Ikeja, Lagos, sentenced Dr. John Abebe, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s in-law, to seven years in prison for forgery and money laundering on Saturday, February 18.
He was given a seven-year prison term by Justice Mojisola Dada, with the option of a 30-day payment of a N50 million fine in lieu of incarceration.
The younger brother of the late former First Lady Stella Obasanjo, Abebe was charged with forgery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and appeared in court.
In the allegations, the EFCC alleged that Abebe “knowingly faked” a letter from BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon Ltd dated November 30, 1995.
The trial judge rendered the decision after concluding that the prosecution’s case was proven beyond a reasonable doubt and found him guilty as a result.
