After missing more than three months of competition due to hamstring and abdominal ailments, Carlos Alcaraz had a dream comeback on Sunday when he defeated Cameron Norrie 6-3, 7-5, to win the Argentina Open.
The top seed, who was 19 years old when he won the US Open in September and topped the world rankings, then withdrew from the Australian Open due to a leg injury after experiencing abdominal pain at the Paris Masters.

After being passed by Melbourne champion Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz started his campaign to reclaim the top rank with his debut appearance in Buenos Aires, where he played four matches and dropped just one set.

“This week has been fantastic for me; it’s been a long time since I’ve had any competition. Going to Buenos Aires and performing at the caliber I did is incredible and very unique. It has also been a difficult week, Alcaraz remarked.

Notwithstanding a brief hiccup in the second set against Norrie where he dropped his serve, the Spaniard’s sixth ATP title and first since Flushing Meadows last year was never in doubt.

At 5-3, I had a chance to win the game, but Alcaraz quickly broke my serve.

But I was aware that I needed to maintain my composure and wait for my opportunity, which arrived at 6:5. It was a wonderful match.
