On Wednesday, candidates running in the upcoming presidential election signed a peace agreement in front of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Naija News, the National Peace Committee, headed by former Nigerian leader General Abdulsalami Abubakar, orchestrated the signing of the peace pact at the International Conference Center in Abuja (rtd).
Moreover, committee members Yakubu Gowon and Mathew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, were present when the peace agreement was signed.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), among others, were candidates in attendance at the event.
The signature of the peace agreement is intended to bind the presidential candidates to ensure the peaceful conduct of their campaigns before the election.
Remember that the presidential candidates committed political parties, candidates, and their spokespersons to conduct their campaigns (both online and offline) in a peaceful way when the campaigns began in September 2022.
