Solomon Damak, a police officer who was held by the Plateau State Police Command, will be tried in an orderly chamber on Monday (today) for allegedly shooting a young guy during a political debate.
Damak is being held in custody at a police station in Jos, the state’s capital, for shooting Tudun Wada resident Nyommena Badapba.

During a Sunday disagreement about who would win the state’s upcoming governorship race, the gun-happy cop shot Badapba in the shoulder.

The policeman was alleged to have criticized Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, an APC candidate for governor, during the debate by declaring that he would not prevail in the March 11 election.

As Badapba tried to defend the governorship candidate against the policeman’s claims that Yilwatda could not perform in the state, he became a victim.

According to reports, the man who suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder is receiving care in a hospital in the state.

In a statement released on Monday, Alabo Alfred, the Plateau Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the officer’s detention and criticized the officer’s conduct as being improper.

According to a portion of the statement, “The Plateau State Police Command strongly condemns the shooting of Mr. Nyommena Salah Badapba “m” of Tudun Wada, Jos by an obstinate member of the Command, Inspr. Solomon Damak.

“The circumstances that led to the obstinate officer injuring someone with a gun did not match with his professional calling; instead, it was done out of retaliation, which is contrary to the qualities of a Nigerian Police officer.

“The cop had been detained in order to prevent him from eluding justice. After his gun was found, he was taken into custody to face punishment.

“The Divisional Police Officer, ‘A’ Division, and other officers have been asked to visit the victim at the hospital to know his condition and make arrangements for payment of his medical costs,” according to Plateau Commissioner of Police CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka.

“The Command guarantees the general public that the Police Commissioner is an upright officer who performs his duties in the fear of God, and as a result, he will not put up with any sort of wrongdoing by any officer of his Command, regardless of level.

The statement said, “As part of common practice in the Force, the erring officer has been defaulted and his orderly room trial will begin March 6, 2023.
