No fewer than 31 petitions have been submitted to the Anambra State Election Petitions Tribunal by different candidates from various political parties in the state.
The petitions came from candidates who ran in the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25 as well as the state assembly elections on March 18.
This was announced in Awka on Friday by Mr. Muazu Bagudu, the state’s secretary for the Election Petitions Tribunal.
Bagudu stated that while petitions for the state assembly election held on March 18 are no longer being accepted for the candidates who were unhappy with the results.
Seven of the 31 requests, according to our correspondent, came from the Senate, and 24 from the House of Representatives. For the state assembly elections, no petition has yet been received.
The senatorial candidates for the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr. Chris Azubogu, the Labour Party, Ms. Obinna Uzoh, and the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mr. Chris Uba, are contesting the declaration of Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah as senator-elect for the Anambra South Senatorial Zone. This was revealed by a breakdown of the number of petitions.
The Labour Party’s Mr. Tony Nwoye’s announcement of himself as the senator-elect for the Anambra North Senatorial Zone is being contested by Princess Stella Oduah of the PDP.
Mr. Dozie Nwankwo of the APGA and Mrs. Helen Mbakwe of the New Nigerian Political Party are contesting the Labour Party’s announcement of Chief Victor Umeh as the senator-elect in Anambra Central.
