By finishing her 175th marathon, 81-year-old Hilary Wharam has shown that age is just a number.
The seasoned runner finished the marathon on Sunday in Leeds, United Kingdom, in eight hours and fifteen minutes.
At the age of 55, Hilary began the sport with the goal of running 300 marathons.
“It’s always hard, it’s harder on your own, but if you’ve got a captive audience, and you’re thinking about helping them, you just fly,” Hilary said of the sense of community during the marathon.
The Leeds Marathon, which was established in memory of former rugby league player Rob Burrow, who was identified as having motor neurone disease in 2019, attracted more than 12,000 runners.
